Permanent Makeup FAQ
What is permanent makeup?
Also known as microblading, microshading, or ombre brows, permanent makeup is a form of tattooing to make the brows appear full, define shape, or create a brow that is not there.
Microblading uses a hand tool to implant hair-strokes under the skin. This gives a natural look to the brow. This form of permanent makeup is not recommended for oily, aging, or sun damaged skin.
Microshading or ombre brow uses a tattoo machine to implant pigment under the skin, much like a traditional tattoo. This form of permanent makeup casts a shadow behind the brow filling in open space. This gives the illusion that the brows have been filled in with makeup.
Typically these 2 forms will be combined to create the best look.
How long does it last?
Depending on skin-type, lifestyle, and sun exposure, permanent makeup will last 1-3 years without touch ups. You will need to get them touched up every 1-3 years depending on how well your skin hold the pigment. Permanent makeup is designed to implant under only the top layer of skin, this allows it to exfoliate away naturally. Please note that final results cannot be guaranteed as every person’s skin is different. Though pigment will fade over time, it may never totally disappear.
How long is the healing process?
The initial healing will take 10-14 days with final healed results at 6 weeks. Your brows will go through different stages during this time. At first they may appear quite dark and bold, they may scab, they may look uneven, and they might even look as though they have disappeared completely. Please trust the process. Your touch up appointment is there to perfect your brows. No work can be done on the brows until 6 weeks.
Does it hurt?
Typically people describe the process as annoying rather than painful. We do try to ensure comfort by using numbing creams throughout the service.
What is the aftercare?
You will be sent home with full aftercare instructions and cream. For the first 7-10 days you will want to avoid sun exposure, excessive sweating, and no picking!
I’ve had my brows done in the past, can you fix them?
The short answer is maybe. Every case is different and it is important to set expectations when working over an old tattoo. Please send us a message with a picture of your old work to see if we can help.
